Events – 2022

All talks commence at 7.30 pm unless otherwise indicated. For 2022 all talks are held within the Woodway Room of the Town Hall. Admission to the talks will be £1.00 for members and £3.00 for non-members. Complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided after the talk.

Exploring Plymouth’s Heritage
An illustrated presentation about the history of Plymouth by Robert Hesketh.

4th March 2022
7.00 pm Annual General Meeting
7.30 pm Devon and African Slavery
A talk by Dr Todd Gray based on his recently republished book Devon and the Slave Trade.

1st April 2022
Stokelake and its history
A talk by Leah Stirrat based on her own research into the history of Stokelake House.

6th May 2022
A historical tour of Bovey Tracey
This will be an afternoon conducted visit to Bovey Tracey. Meet for a 2pm start by the Information Centre in the main Station Road car park. Lasting about 90 minutes and ending at the Paiish Church via Fore Street, Cromwell Arch, the Old Town Hall and other places of interest. £1 for members & £3 for non-members.

3rd June 2022
The Glorious Revolution
A presentation by Professor Geoff Hodgson about the accession of William III in 1689 and its long term effects.

July 2022 – No Meeting (Chudfest/Carnival)

5th August 2022
Castle Drogo
Illustrated presentation about the history and renovation of the castle by a representative of the National Trust.

2nd September 2022
The origins and work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission
A presentation by Mark Bailey who is one of their volunteer speakers.

7th October 2022
The 1549 Western Prayer Book Rebellion and the siege of Exeter
A talk by Dr. Ed Fox.

4th November 2022
Fieldwork and Excavation of the Roman site at Ipplepen 2007 to 2019
Illustrated talk by Derek Gore.

2nd December 2022
End of Year Social event with an illustrated quiz, wine, nibbles and a raffle.
