The History Group logo is in the form of a shield quartered and is a representation of four coats of arms belonging to families once influential in the parish, these being:

Upcoming events

There are no events in December or January. Our next meeting will be on 6th February with the AGM followed by a presentation on the Abbot's Way path across Dartmoor. The full programme for 2026 will be available shortly.

Recent events

On 21st September, CHG members had a guided walk along the Agatha Christie Mile. Starting at the new statue of Agatha by the harbour clock tower, we moved to Beacon Quay and the D-Day embarcation ramps, round the harbour to Princess Gardens and onward to end at Torre Abbey. Along the way we heard about Agatha's life in Torquay and some of the town's history.

On 6th July we had a guided tour of Exeter Cathedral with emphasis on its history and architecture. Unfortunately, due to building works at the east end, we couldn't see that part, but we still had an excellent and interesting visit.
