How was crime dealt with in the seventeenth century? What were the punishments
for various crimes and how could you avoid them? The lives of many of our Stuart
ancestors were touched by crime in some way; as victims, witnesses, lawbreakers
or law enforcers. How would they have been regarded and treated by their
contemporaries?

The Vikings in the West Country
An illustrated talk by Derek Gore, retired honorary fellow of Exeter
University where he specialised in teaching about the Viking Age.
It has often been said that the Vikings were not active in the South West
peninsula. This talk covers documentary and archaeological sources that tell a
different story that there is convincing evidence of Scandinavian impact on this
area.
